Please...SEE THE SCAN!!! This is an artwork image of PRE running his record-setting 5,000 at the 1972 U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS AT HAYWARD FIELD IN OREGON. The artist is JAMES CLOUTIER who also did the original artwork for the OFFICIAL PROGRAM FOR THE 1972 TRIALS. (I have scanned this program below: this is NOT part of this auction, it is just for reference.) James Cloutier is a Eugene, Oregon sports artist and photographer who also played baseball for the Oregon Ducks back in the 1960s. His dramatic portrayal of Pre was inspired by his presence photographing the '72 Trials from the infield at Hayward. PRE is rendered leading LEN HILTON of HOUSTON and soon-to-be-former record holder GEORGE YOUNG. This is a print of the original artwork produced on archival stonehenge paper. It measures 26 1/4 inches X 16 7/8 inches. The original work was done in 2007. JAMES CLOUTIER HAS SIGNED THIS PRINT. His sympathetic eye captured a marvelous moment of track history embodied in the drive and determination of Steve Prefontaine in setting the new American record in the 5,000.
