Description
2 original press items are on offer: 1. The front page of the Daily Graphic , a national newspaper, dated 30th August 1926 which is given over entirely to the celebrations in Dover which followed MILLIE CORSON'S Channel crossing on 28th August. She was the second woman to conquer the Channel and the first mother to do so. Others who appear in the photographs (all have detailed captions) include BILLY KELLINGLEY her trainer, Captain HARRY PEARSON her pilot, and FRANK PERKS a Birmingham swimmer who made an attempt on the same day but was forced to give up a mile off Dover. Measures 12" x 14". Codition is good, some creases. 2. Original b/w press photograph taken in September 1927 showing MILLIE CORSON kissing her husband just before entering the water for an attempt at a two-way crossing of the Channel. Had she succeeded she would have been the first woman to do so but she was forced to give up after swimming for 9 hours and 40 minutes. Standing behind her holding the tin of grease is BILLY KELLINGLEY. Measures 6 1/4" x 8 1/2". Condition is good, lightly rubbed, couple of faint spots.
