Wow!!! This auction is for a very early Babe Ruth game used bat. The bat has been authenticated by MEARS as a professional model game used bat, graded A7. It's a Hillerich & Bradsby (Louisville Slugger) dash-dot-dash model 125 bat, thus defining the bat as from the 1918-21 label period. The barrel has the small version Ruth signature, which places the manufacture date as being from July 9, 1918 through the 1921 season. Babe Ruth was already quite popular at that time, attested to by the infamous trade from the Red Sox to the Yankees before the 1920 season.The bat is 35-3/4" long and weighs around 34.5 ounces. It shows heavy use and is side written with, according to MEARS, the date of 6-14-24. The last digit of the year is more difficult to distinguish that the others. In my opinion, it could be 21 or 24 or 29. Besides the date, the remainder of the side writing has been wiped clean from the bat. There are also remnants of a shipping label just below and to the right of the center brand, further testament that this bat was returned to the Louisville Slugger factory once it could no longer be used in a game. If that's not enough...the bat also comes with a notarized letter of provenance from the NY Yankees batboy (Bill Hongach) that got the bat out of Yankee Stadium in October of 1973 when the stadium was being remodeled.Please contact me with any questions you might have, or if you would like additional pictures.
