click for larger image19937: Circa 1935-37 Paul Thompson Game Worn Jersey. Circa 1935-36 Paul Thompson Game Worn Jersey. Here we make available one of the rarest Chicago Black Hawk styles bar none, this one coming from the 1935-36 campaign. This particular gamer was worn by left winger Paul Thompson, who would go on to be the club's head coach for several years after his retirement. A style used only from 1935-37, this rare garment is so scarce that even the Hockey Hall of Fame could not secure one whose condition approaches that of this beauty. As stated before, condition remains as close to immaculate as one could expect of a 1930s sweater, with all holes corrected in the form of 12-14 perfectly executed team repairs. The central logo at chest includes the rare red-faced logo, while a heavy 7.5" "6" dominates the verso. Inside the tail can be found a swatch that includes a French-embroidered "Thompson," a classic touch that shows the attention to detail that the Black Hawks utilized even during the tough aftermath of the Great Depression. The evolution of the Black Hawks sweater is a fascinating path to follow, especially when you consider them against the design worn by the iconic club today. While the modern Chicago jerseys are dominated by their understated simplicity with the large Black Hawk insignia at chest, the design of those uniforms worn until the mid-1950s were dominated by attractive red, black, and white stripes. Immediately pre-dating the club's famed "barber pole" design, the currently offered shirt was used for the three seasons after the team added red to their palette and is the least stripe-y of their early on-ice wear. Up until that point, all Black Hawk uniforms donned the black and white color scheme. Jersey comes directly from the Paul Thompson estate in Calgary, Alberta in the mid-1990s, purchased then by an Edmonton dealer who sold it to our consignor. LOA from MeiGray. Guide Value or Estimate: $25,000 - $30,000.Shipping: Clothing, Costumes & Jerseys (view shipping information)Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 100-110 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids.
