It was a battle that came down to the final game of the season, when an uncharacteristic one for five outing for the star Yankee shortstop forced him to settle for a second place finish to Joe Mauer, who squeaked in just ahead of Jeter's .343 season average to take the batting title. Check out the October 2, 2006 issue of The New York Post, and you'll find a photo of Jeter shot at the Yanks' final regular season game, wearing the jersey we present here, easily identifiable by the unique pinstriping pattern. Initially acquired directly from "Yankees-Steiner Collectibles," the jersey shows excellent wear from the final two weeks of the season (the included LOA states that the jersey was utilized "Sept 14 thru Oct 1."). The classic "NY" logo appears over the heart, above a brown stain believed to be pine tar from Jeter's bat. His number "2" appears on verso. The "Majestic Authentic Collection" label in the tail is affixed with dual Steiner authenticating holographic stickers, as well as one from Major League Baseball. A size "48" flap tag dangles below, beside a larger blank model. Finally, a 10/10 blue sharpie signature on the chest is notated "2006 Game Used." Matching pants are included, likewise dating to the 2006 season. We find splendid use here as well, with dirt staining and pilling of the fabric readily apparent. Beside the Steiner-stickered "Majestic" label in the waistband is located an embroidered strip reading "2 Jeter 35-37 35 06." Collectors are well aware that Yankees game material is closely controlled by the organization, making it the toughest and most valuable of all modern gamers. It goes without saying that the Captain's gear, particularly from one of the finest of his Hall of Fame career, carries abundant appeal for the serious collector. LOA from Steiner Sports. LOA from Lou Lampson. Guide Value or Estimate: $12,000 - $15,000.Shipping: Clothing, Costumes & Jerseys (view shipping information)Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 100-110 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 22.50% Buyer's Premium with a $9 minimum Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Auctions.
