Description
Description: 1978 New York Yankees World Series Championship ring. Classic 14K gold ring presented to Wilfredo Calvino Head Scout for the Caribbean as a member of the 1978 World Champion New York Yankees Scouting division. Top of the ring has a single inset diamond of approx. 1 carat weight on a blue field surrounded by diamonds placed around the perimeter for a total of approximately 2 carats. "Yankees World Champions" lettering encircles the ring. One side panel features 1978 with an image of the stadium while the other has "Calvino" nameplate above New York Yankees logo and 22nd championship beneath (pride and tradition). Interior ring band has the word "BALFOUR 14K" impressed in block lettering . This ring reminds us of the "Greatest Come Back in History" referring to the Yankees historic comeback from trailing the Red Sox during the regular season by 14 1/2 games only to storm back and defeat Boston in the famed Bucky Dent home run playoff game. After that, the AL playoffs against the Kansas City Royals (won 3-1) and the World Series rematch against the Dodgers. Condition remains excellent fine with minor surface wear from use. Without question, the most significant 1978 New York Yankees World Championship ring to have ever been offered at public auction, originating from the personal collection of the Yankees' Head Caribbean Scout. In addition, this ring is one of the more significant World Series rings of any type to enter the collecting hobby. Be a part of the pride by wearing this incredible ring from an incredible year now that the stadium is not the same. Wilfredo Calvino had brought many players into the major league such as, Andujar, Dave Concepcion and many more while he was the scout for teams such as the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, St Louis Cardinals and The Phillies. Mr. Calvino was born in Guantanamo, Cuba, left Cuba to be a manager in the Mexican league and his career took off from there. Mr. Calvino went on to win an amazing amount of championships with many different teams. Wilfredo Calvino was inducted into the Cuban Hall of Fame as the manager who had won the most games in Cuba’s baseball history. A great ball player with a great career.
